Michter’s Whiskey Tasting Event: Michter’s draws its inspiration from a whiskey-making legacy that traces back to 1753, when Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk established a distillery in Pennsylvania. Originally known as Shenk’s and later Bomberger’s, the distillery changed hands and names throughout its long history before the Michter’s name emerged in the 20th century.

The original Pennsylvania operation ultimately closed in 1989, but the Michter’s name and legacy were later revived in Kentucky. Under new ownership, the brand established its modern identity around American whiskey production, with a focus on small-batch and single-barrel releases, careful barrel selection, maturation, and attention to the details of production.

Today, Michter’s produces bourbon, rye, American whiskey, and sour mash whiskey, alongside limited and highly aged expressions. Its approach includes the use of carefully selected barrels, low barrel-entry proofs for many of its whiskeys, attention to maturation conditions, and filtration protocols tailored to individual expressions.
