Elijah Craig Bourbon Tasting Event: Elijah Craig is named for Reverend Elijah Craig, an 18th-century Baptist minister, educator, entrepreneur, and distiller who settled in Kentucky during the early development of the region’s whiskey industry. Tradition has long credited Craig with being among the first distillers to age whiskey in charred oak barrels, a practice that would eventually become fundamental to the production and identity of American bourbon.

While the exact origins of barrel charring remain debated among whiskey historians, the Elijah Craig name has become closely associated with the story of bourbon’s development in Kentucky. Today, the whiskey is produced by Heaven Hill Distillery, a family-owned Kentucky distiller founded in 1935 shortly after the repeal of Prohibition.
